Why Christian Travelers Love Experiencing Alaska

Lifting voices and hearts in a moment of powerful worship

There are many places Christian travelers would enjoy, but one of my favorites is Alaska. I’ve been blessed to be a part of Inspiration Travel for a long time, and every time we go, I’m just amazed. You see the handiwork of God: up close and personal. The glaciers are absolutely breathtaking.

I remember standing on the ship as ice pieces fell into the water, and it stirred something deep inside me, a sense of awe and worship.

Later, Gloria Gaither told me that the melting process had been happening for years, and that stuck with me. It reminded me that sometimes God works in our lives the same way—slowly, quietly, over time and then, one day, it feels like everything happens all at once. It’s not sudden; it’s been a process all along.

For me, Alaska is a picture of that: God’s faithfulness at work, shaping us in ways we don’t even see.

How Christian Travel Deepens Faith and Broadens Perspective

Travel has profoundly changed my life and my faith. When you step outside your usual world—whether you’re from a small town or a big city—and see how vast and diverse God’s creation is, you realize how big He truly is.

You meet people who worship differently, who don’t look like you, who live halfway across the world, and yet you feel this beautiful connection through Christ. It breaks down walls and reminds me that God is not confined to any one place or culture. Traveling has helped me see His heart is for all people.

What Inspires Your Songs and Ministry?

The Holy Spirit, first and foremost. But I’m also deeply inspired by people. I’m a listener and observer; I notice things. My friend Bevy Mason once taught me about keeping a “hook book.” Anytime I hear something that sounds like a song lyric or message title, I jot it down.

Nature inspires me too: sitting by a crackling fire, walking along the beach and feeling the waves. That’s when I feel closest to God. My family also inspires me: my husband, my children and the people I’ve met through ministry.

Inspiration is everywhere if you’re paying attention.

Share Your Funniest Travel Moments

One that stands out is when we were in the Faroe Islands. I had the most delicious halibut, but then someone offered me whale blubber. Let’s just say it was my first and last time trying that! It didn’t taste good at all.

Another funny moment happened during a European tour. One of our backup singers, Debra Lee, accidentally sat in first class, thinking her seat was 3A. It was actually 53A. We laughed so hard. We’ve called her First Class ever since!

How Do You Experience God in Different Places?

Norway is one of those places where I feel the presence of God’s peace so strongly. The fjords, the mountains, the sheep on the hillsides—it’s like stepping into a hymn. This stillness lets me slow down and listen to the Lord.

I remember watching people in the city just taking time to sit outside, drink coffee and talk in the middle of the day. That rhythm of rest reminded me that sometimes God speaks best when we’re still. Norway taught me to embrace that.

What Are Your Upcoming Projects?

I’ve got a brand-new book called Little Faith? Big God! It’s full of faith quotes and Scriptures built around Matthew 17:20. It’s a reminder that it doesn’t take a lot of faith when you have a big God!

I’ve also got a new album, By the Riverside, and another project called Free to Love. It’s an exciting season!

The Essentials You Never Travel Without

I like to stay spiritually and physically nourished while I’m on the road. These are my must-haves wherever I go:

  1. Bible and devotionals
  2. Barley green and vitamins
  3. Skincare essentials
